Although Vietnam Star Aniseed is of very good quality, the quality is not very consistent, as harvest crop is only from 1,500 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes, and very much influenced by weather which is very changeable in Vietnam. For example, in 2000, July crop is coming very badly due to unfavourable weather, bringing about a serious shortage in quantity for export. And as the result, the quality gets worse: only highly broken Star Aniseed from previous crop is available, but very little left. This is the reason why its price fluctuates widely all the time. However, in 2001, Star Aniseed is in a good crop but China is absorbing a large quantity of this material, thus the price is also surging from time to time.
